Axonometric Sketches

In this submission please find attached 6 sets of two axonometric drawings. The subjects of these axonometric drawings contain exactly 5 rectangular prisms in their design in both negative and positive spacial forms.

I took my initial sketches pictured below and transferred these into a digital format in order to achieve clean lines and coloring, in this way I was able to explicitly highlight the themes of each design and pay homage to Karen Clemmensen and Dortre Mandrups architectural styles.

Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen and Karen Clemmensen née Mundt

In our second experiment for arch1101 we have been assigned two brilliant female danish architects, one living and one passed away. We are to design a monument that embodies the spirit of their architectural styles and designs. In order to do this we must of course understand the methodologies and styles associated with Karen Clemmensen and Dortre Mandrup.

Dortre is renowned for her thorough analysis of briefs, investigation of new materials, constructions and variations of space. Her tactile and poetic experience of space with conceptional clarity and accuracy resonate throughout her architecture in both large scales and detail. The evocative use of geometric shapes, clever use of lighting and lightweight steel construction contributes to a beautiful sculpural take on architectural design that I hope to replicate in my design.

Clemmensen is often appraised for her ability to create an intrinsic sense of humbleness and spacial continuity within the structures she designs. This feeling is established through clever lighting within the lighting. Furthermore Clemmensen works to integrate her structures within their environment, establishing a subtle, intimate approach to architecture that resonates with humanistic and socialist themes that surrounded her life.

Animation 1 / 3 : Client Perspective
This is the first animation from the set of 3 and showcases the experience of the client as they enter the space, move forward into the central courtyard and then proceed to the final show-casing area.

Animation 2 / 3 : Second Level
This animation walks us through the second level of the building allocated to Jiro Ono, his walk down past the overhead garden and into the central courtyard and onto the client-showcasing space.

Animation 3 / 3 : Section
This animation demonstrates a section of the house passing from the front to the back, allowing us to understand the coherency of the spaces and the general feel of the workspaces dedicated to Jiro Ono and Shinya Kimura.

Integration of Client Creations

In this post I complete the final integration of the clients products into their respective positions throughout the building.

Animation : Baby Steps

My first attempt and animating my model, I used multiple tutorials in order to figure out how to export the animations in high definition with respectable frame-rates as well as manipulate the camera. In my next animations I hope to experiment with sections and other aspects of my building.

My first attempt (pretty shocking), Low resolution render and partial wall-clipping

Second attempt including a HD render, integration of terrain as well as an improved frame-rate.

Integration of Terrain/Sandbox

In this post I demonstrate the integration of terrain to my model using the Sandbox tool, this aims to highlight the strengths of the building in which the clients main discussion and creation areas all contain easy-open access to the vast views of the areas surrounding the studio. In my next posts I intend to focus on interior modelling and hope to move onto animation.

The Progression

In this post I have made dramatic changes to my model idea, extracting key concepts from the original design and projecting these onto new model ideas that are far more intriguing and practical. On the upper levels I have utilised the cantilevered glass and elevated platforms from the original design, and the lower level incorporates the underground design studio for Shinya, illuminated through sky-lights.

The green courtyard central to the building indicates an initial meeting area between the client and creator, I have designed this in such a way that the creators desending/ascending from their respective stairs can be seen through the entrance foyer of the building as I deemed this to be a central aspect of the design.
